Pareidolia

Pareidolia

April 7, 2018 – April 30, 2018

From April 7 to 30, 2018, the gallery presented Paredolia, a solo exhibition by Giulio Vesprini.
Derived from the Greek èidōlon (image) and the prefix parà (near), Paredolia refers to an instinctive phenomenon related to the visual organ, an automatic tendency to recognize random profiles in shapes already known to the viewer’s visual memory.

The exhibition is conceived as a collection of serial reproductions: The first monotypic proposal is inserted into a process of combinations that are coherent in their aesthetics but different in their outcome. The graphical style of the artist serves the investigation of the illusory perception to explore its possible interpretative superimpositions

Giulio Vesprini questions instinct and emphasizes its intuitive evaluation. In the attempt to give form to chaos, the individual recognizes himself and uses a cognitive method as suggestive as it is familiar, the maieutics of the image.

Paredolia thus becomes a place for the artist’s research and, at the same time, an invitation to the viewer to freely decode it. Vesprini proposes the intervention both for the public and for his profession, because the mutual participation of the different parties makes it possible to access common places of meaning.
