URBANSCAPES #5 - Spazio Pubblico?!
April 29, 2022
For the fifth episode of URBANSCAPES, Street Levels Gallery presented a special edition with very special guests! Francesco Caneschi, Jacopo Amendola and Olivia Gori, architects and researchers passionate about urbanism. Patrizia Cammeo and Titti Maschietto, urban planners and co-founders of UFO (together with Bachi, Binazzi e Foresi), a radical avant-garde group between architecture, action, art, design and communication.
These five professionals introduced the audience to a spontaneous debate on urban life and recent mutations of public space, with a focus on the post-pandemic condition of the city.
Do you think there is a city boundary? Do you think your city’s historic center is a common good? Do you think that public space belongs to everyone no one excluded?
Street Levels Gallery will also present a new installation featuring never-before-exhibited collages by CASABELVA. With its so-called ‘strilloni’, the collective operates on the deconstruction of media and advertising language, promoting the sale of fake news with a decidedly provocative intent.
URBANSCAPES
URBANSCAPES is the new divulgative format that Street Levels Gallery and the association A Testa Alta dedicate to the story of the Florentine cultural ecosystem. A window that opens on all the local organizations – collectives, movements, associations, artists – that, in recent years, have been involved in the reappropriation, redefinition and regeneration of public space, using the medium of urban art and its various declinations, promoting alternative practices of intervention, contributing to the construction of a collective identity.
The city as a common good is the premise that unites the guests presented during the various talks, the point from which to explore the changes that affect the present and the future of our cities.
Francesco Caneschi is a PhD student in Radical Architecture and Incremental Urbanism, he trained and works between Portugal and Italy. He has worked for Aires Mateus in Lisbon, for and built installations in public space with ab-USO and Horizontal.
