The game of colored walls

The game of colored walls

May 12, 2018 – May 25, 2018

Yuri Romagnoli, on the street Hopnn, showed his solo exhibition “Lo giuoco de li muri tinti” (The game of colored walls) at Street Levels Gallery on May 12, 2018.
White and red recur in the pictorial phrasing of Hopnn’s works, inescapable as inescapable is the bicycle, the artist’s favorite subject. His interventions aim to awaken consciences on issues that belong to the contemporary world: politics, society, the spirit of the time.

With “Lo giuoco de li muri tinti” (The game of colored walls) Hopnn wants to strike political institutions, creating scenarios in which the very authorities and the main Florentine associations that strive to “preserve” urban decency become the most ruthless graffiti crews, in a desperate race for visibility.

In the works on display, the reversal of roles and the overturning of reality highlight the artist’s criticism of all those who contribute to making Florence a beautiful and cold showcase, designed to please the tourist. Hopnn’s targets are individuals lacking in artistic culture and unable to recognize the difference between art and vandalism, portrayed in a vain attempt to restore a fictitious urban decorum.
