Unity Wanted
December 18, 2016 – January 15, 2017
On Sunday, December 18, 2016, Street Levels Gallery celebrated its grand opening with a group exhibition of no less than eighteen artists from the urban scene of Florence and beyond.
The title of the exhibition was “Unity Wanted”, indicating the will to find a common thread between the different practices that characterize the urban counterculture: from mural painting to writing, through illustration and tattooing, then stencil art and poster art and more.
“Unity Wanted” is not only an initial curatorial goal for Street Levels Gallery, but above all an attempt to set the starting point for future research aimed at creating a physical space that is an expression of the mental space that over time has united the representatives of the urban movement in the struggle against the standardization of culture.
Mr Wany, Zed1, Hogre, Guerrilla SPAM, CLET, Hopnn, Bue2530, Ninjaz, Fone, URTO, Ache77, Exit Enter, Jamesboy, Stelleconfuse, ZeuS OczB, Lupen 639, Blub Lartesanuotare, Moradi Il Sedicente were the artists selected, to bring to life the nascent project of an organization that aims to explore and inform about the various possibilities of interaction of art with public space. In this sense, “Unity Wanted” is in fact the statement of intent of the Street Levels Gallery, which is therefore configured as a place that can host not only artists, curators and cultural operators, but also the entire citizenry, in order to bring to life new and unexplored possibilities of artistic expression in Florence.
