Vasi comunicanti, un fiorire sinergico

Vasi comunicanti, un fiore sinergico is the new mural created by Rosmunda across four walls of  Lux Living, a social housing complex in Montelupo Fiorentino, curated by Street Levels Gallery.

Rosmunda (born in 1992) is an artist who lives and works in Carrara. Her artistic research explores the threshold between the human and plant worlds. Fairy tales, myths, anthropology, and natural sciences all inform her practice, which is built around a single fundamental question: what connects us beyond our differences? For Rosmunda, art is a tool for awakening the awareness that we are all made of the same energy—whether human beings, flowers, or dogs—and, from this perspective, for reflecting on our role in the world.

The vase is the starting point of this project. As Montelupo Fiorentino is renowned for its ceramic tradition, this choice is far from accidental: the vase becomes a bridge between the artist’s research and the local culture. Through four different reinterpretations, Rosmunda portrays it not merely as a decorative object, but as a storytelling subject in its own right.

In the room dedicated to the rehabilitation medical center stands a vase in an ancient, almost Greek style, animated by figures riding bicycles: bodies in motion, vital energy, and a direct reference to the idea of mens sana in corpore sano. The vase narrates the act of rehabilitation, portraying care for the body as a daily and collective practice.

In the area dedicated to support services, Rosmunda paints two flowers engaged in conversation. Each flower bears a human face in place of its pistil, and the two figures chat with one another despite belonging to different species.

The message is both direct and delicate: just as flowers, despite their differences, are ultimately all plants, we too are always human beings, belonging to the same world.

In the third space, larger and frequented by people with very different backgrounds, cultures, and life stories, Rosmunda brings a vast garden. At its center stands a monumental jar with a human face painted on its surface. Flowers emerge from its head, and the meadow seems to become the creature’s dress: the vase gradually transforms into a figure, and the boundary between object and being becomes porous. The subject is simple and welcoming, just as a space open to everyone should be.

Finally, in the space dedicated to the psychological support desk and activities for young people with attention deficits, the vase becomes a face, an image of listening and calm. The color palette shifts to light tones that evoke serenity and tranquility.

Lux Living is not just a residential complex: it is a community project. Information desks, activities for children and the elderly, intergenerational workshops, and moments of care and social interaction all make it a meeting point that offers initiatives bringing together health, culture, and relationships. The Community Nursery is the beating heart of this path—a living and open space for anyone who wishes to take part or propose new ideas.
