Che Festa andare a scuola!
December 18, 2024
The facade of Sauro Papini Primary School, located in the Galluzzo has been completely renovated thanks to the urban art project Che festa andare a scuola! curated by Street Levels Gallery and created by Uruguayan artist Nulo.
Lucia Pintos, known artistically as Nulo, born in 1989 in Montevideo is an acclaimed artist established at european and international level. Her creative process focuses on analyzing reality by deconstructing and simplifying it to reveal its deepest essence. Her works, characterized by essential shapes and two-dimensional painting, embody the artist’s desire for expressive freedom.
In the mural, the use of color becomes a tool to make the architecture of Sauro Papini School’s facade, predominantly composed of straight lines, appear more fluid and harmonious. The purpose is to soften the building’s angular forms and enhance their cohesion with the surrounding environment. The contrast between the rigid shapes of the school structure and the delicate designs created by the artist, reinforced by the use of pastel colors, contributes to a visual balance and a sense of harmony. Color, particularly in its juxtaposition with the sharp edges of the structure, serves as a genuine expressive medium for the artwork and a vehicle for communicating Nulo’s creative vision.
The mural, which spans 32 meters in width and over 7 meters in height on the school’s central facade, enhances the architecture of the building. Its pastel tones allow the school to connect with the urban context and the surrounding landscape, situated as it is in an area of the city that directly interacts with Florence’s lush countryside.
A work that evokes the magic of childhood.
Nulo’s painting style evokes the universe of childhood, reason why Street Levels Gallery selected her for this project.
The mural is not merely a decorative element for the school’s external walls, but it serves as a tool to strengthen students’ sense of belonging and cultural identity within their educational environment, also introducing them to themes and styles of contemporary culture.
Through its direct and authentic language, the artwork integrates seamlessly into the school setting, representing the school itself as a central place for personal growth, both socially and emotionally. From this perspective, aesthetically pleasing and welcoming school spaces play an active role in students’ pedagogical development, fostering reflection and learning. A well-maintained and hospitable environment is attended with greater enthusiasm, encouraging students to express their imagination and stimulating their creativity.
In conclusion, the project aims to highlight the inseparable bond between the world of art and school education as tools for the growth of new generations and their social awareness. It offers a framework for interpreting the present and contributing to the construction of a more conscious and inclusive future.
